Installing Radio/CD player and speakers

Hi guys,
At the northern rally the other day, I noticed that quite a few minors had radio/cd players installed and speakers.
I have a couple of questions, one being is installing one of these and speakers hard and complicated, and two, I noticed that speakers can be in two different places.
The most common appears to be at either sides in footwell, the other, which I saw the other day on a lowlight, had its speakers somehow secured to the shelf below dash. Not sure how they did this, but it meant there wasn't any holes made at all. I would prefer it this way.
Any help,
Thanks

The car will need to be -ve earth, and you will struggle to hear anything above the general Minor racket! Otherwise - it's just the same as any other wireless installation. Hiding the speaker under the front seat is another option.....

another option is to hide the speakers under the dash, if you look under the dash you will find it already has "hundreds" of holes along with two big holes under the glove boxes. I simply bent a piece of metal in to a "V" shape.. on one the arms i made a hole to mount the speaker and on the other arm It is simply a case of drilling the holes to match the existing holes under the dash. I put some damp proof course material between the dash and the mounting plate to ensure that the panel did not rattle.
if you have very thin speakers you might be able to use a flat plate and mount the speakers into the holes under the glove box, but it is a case of trial and error.

i have two box speakers on top of the parcel shelve and two more on the rear parcel shelve, works a treat
Fairly modern unit ,last 10 years ,with built in aux input for mp3 players ,smart phones etc plus a cd player, sounds very passable ,only problem is reaching it to change the small knobs and buttons as I've placed the head unit under the passenger side parcel shelve.
only cost me £3 quid at a parts fair, sold as seen .

you can download most instructions and diagrams from the web
The original 1970's car radios cost a bomb

Just be careful where you situate the radio, it's not that hard to break into a 50 year old car and swipe it.
Out of sight, out of mind, but then you are running out of space on the Minor dash unless you hide it behind the glove box lid?
