Rear bumper straightening

Post by CowleyKids »

Good afternoon all, somebody has decided to drive into the back of our Minor 1000 and dented / bent the rear bumper fortunately only damaging the bumper (it stopped short of damaging the boot area).
Any ideas on where we could get this straightened in the Reading, Basingstoke, Southampton area? We will need a new chrome blade but think that the valance can be rescued.

Thank you in advance.

I don't know how good your valance is but generally speaking they are not very strong (less so if rusty). With the chrome blade off you can fairly easily straighten it yourself with minimal effort.

But -have the mountings been forced into the body and/or up / down in the collision? Measure the mounting heights from the ground - and look inside the boot for distortion........

The mountings are all fine, we were quite lucky really. I didn't realise that there was no spring bar fitted. I think if there was that would have potentially caused more damage or may have made for a smaller dent in the vallance. I have tried a couple of local engineering firms but they do not have the equipment to shape the vallance.

Hello bmcecosse

Sorry for not replying earlier. We have had the rear valance and chrome blade straightened by somebody I by chance bumped into (no pun intended). They made a great job of them. I will get some pictures for you. I am trying to get hold of a spring bar as our car never had one fitted, but they seem to be a bit rare.

Anyway apologies again for not responding sooner.

All the best.

The Cowley Kids.

If it was a front spring bar that you wanted....

Hello Mike

Thank you for the reply. We have managed to find a rear one courtesy of MMOC Club Spares. Thanks again.
