1300 crossflow? No real guide, although it has been done. There is a very nice van on here with the conversion, and if you do a search for cross flow, x-flow etc then you will find a thread from a few years back from jonathon (jlh) with a lovely powerful 1600 crossflow.

had a change of plan, looked at an 1800 mg engine and box but apparently too heavy? so how about a wolesley 1500?

wolseley 1500 and MGB both use the B series engine. Apparently it's a common misconception that the B series is too heavy. Look here:

It can of course be done - problem really is length - not weight - and the W 1500 is a gutless wonder so definitely not worth the hassle...... I'm dying to hear of someone doing a small diesel conversion............

Indeed, the Wolseley supposedly only produces 6bhp more than a 1098 minor. But then again, apparently a marina 1275 produces that too.
The length was an issue the guy had (in the link i posted). He had to relieve the bell housing slightly and fit a very skinny rad.

Hmmm, the early 2000s Vauxhall Astra 1.7 tdi perhaps - quite a potent little package and not too agricultural
