S U Pump question

Having had a lot of issues with the car breaking down randomly from either going for miles to just a few hundred yards I overhauled the fuel pump , It now clicks at a steady rate on tick over and I assume copes when driving as I cannot hear it. Yesterday it was approx 25 C air temp so during my 9 mile drive on a few stops at traffic lights the pump was heard to click rapidly approx 5 to 6 clicks before settling back to a regular beat. The car performed fine during the drive , on my return home I borrowed the wifes digital barbeque thermometer ( sad I know) to try and understand the fuel pump temperature it recorded 37 C on the pump body which to the touch just felt warm so a 10 C rise, the car had 3 gallons of fuel still in it so I assume t must have been some sort of vapourisation problem . Any ideas please .

Sounds fine, I'm surprised the pump wasn't hotter.
It may be worth fabricating a shield to go between the exhaust manifold and the incoming fuel pipe.

Thanks I forgot to mention I have fabricated a shield around the incoming pipe and the float bowl

Were the 5 to 6 clicks while it was ticking over?

Stop worrying about every little noise or lack of it, it's a Morris Minor. As long as it gets you home it works

Perfectly normal - no heat shield required.....
