Hi all I want to change the pull start to a push start anyone know how

Buy a solenoid, and a push button....... Fit the solenoid in place of the pull start - and connect the push to the solenoid. Simples !! But I do have to ask 'why' ????

Possibly because a pull start is how to confuse MOT testers.

Or the original start unit is shorting internally or elsewhere ( I think I have had a drain to earth on mine so in the process of fitting new one , a right pain with short bowden cable and clamps in out of the way places , have to work by feel not sight !

I like the old pull start, which many people nowadays are surprised to see in such an old car, having thought it a modern innovation, like air con, power steering and power windows.

Quite frankly, if an MoT tester cannot figure out how to start a car with only four control knobs, each clearly marked 'C', 'W', 'L' and 'S', then he shouldn't be testing cars.

One chap was trying to turn the ign key to the non existant on the 1960 model 2nd position , his boss came over and showed him the pull start. At a later time I had to explain the starter motor had failed and they would have to use the supplied starting handle to fire the engine , surprised faces all round as they asked me to demonstrate how.

A good reason to keep it would be to confuse potential thieves!

Why would anyone want to change the pull or push start? If an MOT tester isnt familiar with it then he asks the owner...

I removed mine because I thought it was faulty and so I fitted a conventional solenoid (I already had a 2-position key start fitted). Unfortunately, it turned out to be a faulty starter motor. DOH!

Anyway, I made use of the spare switch space, so I've never reverted it back. As pointed out, with a pull-start fitted, it might deter/confuse an opportunistic thief.
