Intermittant fault

Ok all you electrical wizards.Alternator fitted to ser 11. working for years ok ,just developed this fault.Switch on No warning light, starts up and when reved up lights get brighter so charging ok.
Switch off, engine continues to run, pull off lead to dizzy to stop it and notice that even with the switch in off position sparks when lead is pulled so still getting a live feed to it.
Pull connection to alternator, and switch on obviously now no ig light, starts up ok and now switches off ok. Check bulb Ok,pull leads from connection to ign warning light, and try again obv.no ign, starts and switches off ok. put connection back on alternator,Same fault will not switch off.
Put everything back as shouild be,switch on, ign warning now on and switching off ok,Think must have been a bad connection remade by fiddling, try again same fault. Does it at random now.The ignition system is oviously getting power from the alternator, but how.The main lead is a direct connection to the battery from the solenoid, the other feed ,small wire, from the alternator links with the old ingition warning ligh system at the old control box and then on to the warning light.
I think I'm right is saying that the system works by feeding the warning light from the battery via the ign switch, then when the aternator charges it puts the light out via reverse flow.
So My thought was that the fault must lie in the switch, letting the feed from the alternator through it into the ign,but why after pulling the plug and stopping the engine and alternator, when switching on again there is no ign warning light since there is now no current from the alternator because its not running. So could it be that the alternator is faulty, and feeding power all the time via the battery connection even when not running. Looks like I'm going to have to wait till it plays up again and see if there any output from the small alternator lead when disconnected from the controlbox end, unless anyone else has an idea or had the same fault.
