Hi, a new member

Post by Henry.M »

Hi everyone, just thought I would introduce myself. I am 16 years old. I love classic cars (I currently own a 1982 porsche 924 which is a project of mine which i have owned for the past 6 months). In less than a years time, i will be 17. But with insurance prices for young drivers as they are at the moment, I am not going to be able to afford to drive the porsche :( However; having looked up morris minors, I have found that they are much cheaper to insure than most other cars and in my opinion, a very desirable, cheap and practical classic. I do not know much about the morris minor but am very keen to learn about them and hopefuly purchace one.

Welcome - you'll maybe get to the Porker when you are ~ 30....... Meantime - as with any old car - look out for RUST when considering cars......

That's nothing! A friend wanted to buy my 20 year old Roland Garros Peugeot 205 for her son. He's 19 and they live in Liverpool. The cheapest quote they could find was - wait for it - £18,000!

i do still get quotes like that, but they have never worked out the cheapest! i bet with that 18,000 quote, they didn't even get break down cover with that did they?

Bit the bullet and now own a 1964 4 door sallon,in grey and rust. Cost just £125- a non runner (but the battery is missing and the fuel tank is diconnected) so hopefully not a lot wrong their. no severe rust only the sills under the rear doors (but the car came with spare sills so just needs them welding on) underneath is just surface rust which I was just going to sand down, primer and black coach paint over (which happen to have all come free with the car) and the wings and bumpers are off but primered! the tyres are shot as the car was last tax disc expeired on the 31/12/90 ! but thankfully was kept under cover. the interior is half sensible (with the exception of several spiders!) tyres are shot- inner tube is bulging out of them.
sorry there are no pictures yet, but will upload some soon

Just a little technical question here, but when i bought my moggie, the bloke said to me "when you start this car up, disconnect the coil" is this some kind of fault that i should be conserned about?

What he probably meant was turn the engine over on the starter with the ignition off until the oil has circulated.

When I bought my Morris, the car came with no history. Other than 2english taxdiscs from 1990 and 1991 and several newzealand sticker tax disc things. Previous owner said that it was imported back from there in 1990 and when I did a vehicle enquiry on the dvla it said the first registration was in 1990. So some of my car's history must be stored in newzealand. Does anyone know how I could find out more about my cars history? And also, my car's keys have a mmoc fob so was probibly a former members car? The reg is USU 364. (I will officially join this club soon, sorry for for all the questions without being an official member)

Thats sick :) although im not 17 yet, still 16 but it gives me time to rub down and prime Borris so that it doesn't fall apart when I can drive it. and just out of interest, what do these moggies drive like? is the clutch light and forgiving, does the steering wheel take several turns before the car moves? e.t.c
