Cooling System Problem ?

I have ,eventually ,put my Morris 1000 1965 together , and it started almost first time, after a lapse of about 3 years ,while I have been welding / re-newing things -- as you do !!

The engine heats -up , however the top of the radiator heats up , but the lower part seems to lack ciculation . I reverse- flushed the rad . when I re-newed the hoses , and all seemed to be ok. Would a seized thermostat cause the lack of circulation to the lower regions of the rad . ??

if the top of the rad gets warm then the thermostat should be open
how many miles did you drive before checking the bottom of the rad? (it should take a while and as the rad is bigger than it needs to be the bottom of the rad should oly get luke warm except under extreme conditions)

As Ray says if the top of the rad gets hot then the stat would appear
to be opening the top pipe should stay cold for some time after
starting and then will SUDDENLY get very hot as the stat opens.
The supply pipe to the heater should also be hot at this stage
(assuming that the heater valve is in the ON position), this indicates
that the pump is doing its job too. If the stat is stuck OPEN then
the top rad pipe will warm up gradually not suddenly.
