whining noise... have a feeling it might be the differential

...but i have absolutely no idea! that's just a wild guess... it's weird, it appears up until about 37 mph then goes a bit quieter until 50 when it is noticeable again. any ideas? :(

Any oil in the final drive? And in the gearbox ??

drained the diff this morning - there wasn't a lot there, but then re filled it with EP90. noise is still present :( will check gearbox now but last time i tried it it was full. this noise has persisted for ages and i've only just got round to putting the diff oil in -.-

It likely is the final drive... may be possible to improve it by making adjustments.. Is it really intrusive?

Buy another one cheaply and swop over......what ratio is the final drive ? It should be a 4.22 in that age car - may be a good chance to upgrade to a 3.9........

Quieter cruising and improved fuel economy....in theory anyway. It's a LOWER ratio final drive, the 'diff' remains the same.
