Did anyone spot the Morris Minor Van project priced at £1200.00 in Classic Car Weekly on Wednesday.

I rang the chap selling the van and came off the phone laughing,which is a first for a long time...normally I am bemused and annoyed by the way people cannot describe their car or van to you when you ask questions,examples are...
Describe the paintwork please....not bad for a 40 year old vehicle, it really needs a proper respray but what do you expect,I am only asking £5,000 for it.
Is the bodywork in rust free condition...the chassis has been patch welded,the door bottoms are full of filler,the wings have rust coming through,the arches need doing again after i bodged them last year...but what do you expect for a 40 year old motor..concourse...I am only looking at £5,500 for it.
Could you describe the interior for me....the front seats have splits and tears...normal for a 40 year old motor,the headlining has splits,the household carpet I fitted with me brother in laws help is in good condition,I have put a rug over the back seat in the photo to hide the stains,the dashboard timber is coming apart,some of the gauges don`t work...but what do you expect for a 40 year old motor..I am only asking £6,000.
Does it run and drive OK....course it does for about 5 miles then the temperature gauge goes to the red...think it might be a loose wire...the same for the oil gauge..hardly getting above 10 lbs,..you can get one from the scrappy that reads in the middle all the time for £ 5.00.
It ain`t concourse...no it might not be,..but if you want condition 1 money for your car then it needs to be in that sort of condition.
OK enough of that...
Anyway lets get back to the van described as an easy project... yes if you have a team of guys and a state of the art workshop.
Could you describe the condition of the bodywork please,especially the roof and gutters...ain`t got none..they did away wiv em and lowered the roof to get over the rust problem. So it is not standard then..looks good though.
You can always fit some plastic type gutter round it..Do It All sell it.
Is the chassis in good order...it ain`t like it left Longbridge you know...been patched up all over it has..brilliant just how I like them.
OK lets talk about the interior...ain`t much to say really..two seats and some old carpet.
The engine.does it start and run...would do wiv a battery..but ain`t got one.
OK I will bring my own.
Ok you have convinced me to drive about 200 miles and pay you £1200.00 for your bag of s..t..it is a pleasure dealing with a fellow Morris Minor Van enthusiast.

some people think its a perfect car that they are offering you
but when its their turn to go and buy a car from a dealer the shoe is on the other foot and mr Jeckle is put to one side and mr Hyde now appears to point out the defects etc
my brother -in-law phones me from 300 miles away saying this car he seen is in superb condition and you could eat your dinner off the engine bay ,so for years i was kicking myself for not travelling 300 miles and buying it
then i happened to visit him one week and we went around some showrooms and he is pointing out the most utter crap whilst all the time saying this is in mint condition this is concours this one needs nothing done to it etc,etc
one mans rubbish is anothers gold
or should i say Pyrites ( fools gold)

I wondered what had happened to Brian Fade (proprietor of Mayhem Motors and contributor to Practical Classics some years ago!)
