Fuel Sender

Hi all,

Been having a problem where my fuel gauge only shows 3/4 full when the tank is full. I took the wire off the sender unit and earthed it and the gauge shows full. Obviously the sender is at fault, I took it out the tank and turned it upside which would represent full and the gauge still shows 3/4. Can these units be repaired or is it a case of getting a new one and throwing this one away??

Thanks

I have the same problem with my gold faced speedo - it never reads past 3/4. Is yours a gold faced speedo too? I just always make sure it has some petrol in :D

Sounds like you need to calibrate the gauge head in the speedo. If you look on the back of the fuel gauge you will see 2 slots with a small nut holding the adjusters in place. Undo the nuts very carefully and only VERY small adjustments are necessary to correct the needle reading. Use the slider behind the 'Full' side of the gauge to adjust for 'Full' and the one behind the 'Empty' side of the gauge for 'Empty'.

Only make very very small adjustments for each of the two ends of the scale. Make sure that once you have a 'Full' reading that a tiny adjustment in the opposite direction brings it off 'Full', otherwise you will think it is full and at the same time run out! Same thing for Empty. The scale in between should be approximately right if the two ends are correct.
