im thinking about getting a tow bar fitted to pull a small motorbike trailer.
where about does the towbar fit to? and does any one have any pictures of one fitted?

It fits to the rear bumper irons and the boot floor in front or behind the fuel tank. The floor area must be in good condition

Both Saloon and Traveller fit as above, but on a Traveller, you have to drill two holes through the bumper. The kit comes with a spacer to clamp either side of the bumper. The Traveller does not require the bumpers to be drilled.

If you fit a drop plate you do not have to drill the bumper blade and the tow ball will not obstruct removal of the spare wheel

and then " The Traveller does not require the bumpers to be drilled. " in the same post...... I'm not aware of ANY need to drill the bumper when fitting a tow bar...... It may be necessary when fitting a tow ball to the tow bar - unless as mentioned you fit a drop plate. On a Traveller you will require to relocate the number plate and it's lighting arrangements.......

The towbar on my saloon has two holes drilled through the bumper. When I bought the car, the towball was originally attached via these holes but I couldn't get the spare wheel out, so I fitted a drop plate to lower the towball.
The towbar was fitted in the 70's and has a horizontal bar which is fitted to the bumper mountings, between the bumper and the body. There is another bar which goes from the rear of the bumper and bolts to the boot floor just behind the petrol tank. The bumper and valances are sandwiched between two spacers.

As for fitting to a Traveller, there are some towbars which do not require the number plate to be moved. I saw a car at Charles Ware's recently which had a very neat towbar fitted which has two tubular bars which came out underneath the number plate. When looking at the rear of the car, all you could see was the towball and 7-pin plug...very neat.

As with all towbars, it is imperative that the rear of the car is totally sound.

My saloon tow bar, fitted a couple of years ago, doesn't require any drilling to the bumper.

just fitted one to my convertible easiest tow bar i have ever fitted.remove rear bumper then slide towbar back on tighten bumperbolts up then drill one hole through v brackets each side into boot tighten bolts up then hai presto all done .then the wiring...

Yes, OK, fingers running ahead of brain On a saloon with the currently available standard bar, you have drill the bumper. I've never had a problem removing the spare wheel.
