Good morning everyone,
I'm thinking of getting an electronic ignition for my Morris to do away with the points and the hassle of setting them.
The Lumenition kit seems pretty popular but I've noticed that some people seem to have problems with it. Are there any alternative makes? I've seen another one mentioned on these pages but cant remember who makes it or where to get one.
Does anyone have any feelings over this? Any comments would be appreciated.
Many thanks, Colin.

I use the Aldon Ignitor and have for about 10 years (in a few different cars). It failed recently but it was a snapped wire which I re-soldered and it's fine again.
They fit inside the Dizzy so you still retain the original looks.

I have a Lumenition unit in my Traveller and have found it to be reliable so far (3 years), I think they only make a negative earth version, please correct that if wrong. I have had the Lumenition in a previous car and the module melted - fortunately just after the car was started at home. The supplier replaced without charge. I've also experienced a split trigger disc (whatever it's called) and not a physical ailment either!! It was too tight a fit fit over the rotor in the distributor, again replaced without charge.
Cam - do you know if Aldon supply a positive earth version? I'm sure I read somewhere that they do. I'm sure that the Aldon unit is more expensive than Lumenition, please correct that also if wrong!

Well the Luminition Kit is £60 - £70 from the specialists but the website is not fully operational so I cant tell if they do a positive version.
Aldon however do at £84 + vat and the negative version is £62-95 + vat, so there is not much difference in price for the negative version.

Yes they do.
Ooops, sorry Kevin, you already answered that one!

Thanks both. I was just trying to plan ahead in case the neg. earth Lumenition unit melts again

I'd probably try an alternative next time.
Also the feasability/economics of fitting electronic to the saloon which I do not want to change the polarity of - not yet anyway - because there is the original pos. earth only radio still working and hanging underneath the dash. However, as has been mentioned before in other threads, the existing c.b. system works fine.
