Fors Sale and Wanted Section

Am I the only one that would like the For Sale and Wanted section of the board to be that just that - listings of items for sale (or wanted), rather the endless additional postings which are not relevant and then make it hard to see what is actually for sale now, rather than here is a listing on ebay / gumtree etc etc. Let's have a seperate area for those please

I think there needs to be more discipline in this section. I know of one person looking for a Morris Minor for his son who has been put off the club because this appeares so disorganised. Interested to hear your views?

I can think of sooooo much more to put him off rather than a disorganised for sale section.

I think it would be helpful if there was a general rule imposed where any items for sale (including cars) had to have a price specified. This avoids the "open to offers" and, "what's it worth" sort of comments.
Another forum I use has this rule in place and everyone knows where they stand! If you dont know what it's worth, stick it on a auction site and let it find it's own value!

hi people who want a fixed price can use the other forum :o

open to offers etc is a fairly standard selling method, can,t see what the problem is myself

There's an 'auto-prune' facility on the board which automatically deletes posts after a set time frame. And the thread titles are updated by the mods to show that an item has been sold or is no longer wanted as long as the original poster updates their thread to say so. This can also be done by the original posters themselves by editing their posts. Problem is that not everyone bothers to post a message to say that an item has been sold or is no longer wanted.

I'm afraid that there is no 'auto-prune' facility available for those type of posts. Messageboards are full of them!

I can't see why the person 'looking for a car etc' was put off by the Sales section? The forum discussion is usually helpful, and the threads drawing attention to cars/parts for sale in other areas are surely useful? I think he was very easily put off!

I do agree with the OP's point, and have been pretty frustrated in the past when using the forum to sell - so I've thought twice about using it myself (for selling). The nation's least favourite but best used auction site does have some advantages (e.g. looking at seller feedback).

For buying I've never had much of an issue with it, and have used it for finding cars for friends & myself.

What would be even more benefit to club members (IMHO) is a decent classified section, shared between the website and magazine. With a bit of patience, we may get there :)

I would agree a proper classified section would be far better and solve all the issues with the forum appraoch to selling a car
