Re: oil
20W/50 multigrade from supermarkets is fine for the engine and gearbox (change engine oil every 3000 miles). EP 80 or 90 for the back axle. SAE 30 for the dampers and grease for the trunions, track rod ends, propshaft, handbrake cables and steering rack. (Grease points should be done every 1000 miles).

Re: oil
Please don't use supermarket oil. It is not good stuff and will not save you money in the long run. I have very good results with Halford's 'classic' 20/50.20W/50 multigrade from supermarkets

Re: oil
Agreed. Use an oil designed to work with the seals from a 60's car. It won't cost much more and certainly less than having to overhaul an engine.JOWETTJAVELIN wrote:Please don't use supermarket oil. Re: oil
It isn't actually rubbish... but if that's what you want to run your car with then it's up to you.Nothing at all wrong with Asda, Morrisons or Tesco oil.... Stop talking rubbish

Personally I prefer just to spend a few quid more and know the bearings and working surfaces are well protected and the oil isn't going to start breaking down after 500 miles.

Re: oil
Funny how I've never managed to wear an engine out then..... But, if your seriously think the oil is any different in your "Expensive" posh can then good luck

Re: oil
There's a reason why supermarket oil is cheap.
Morris Minor hardly 'posh'. And you have two of them as opposed to the peasants who only have one.

Re: oil
On the oil filler cap I see recommendations for FILTRATE, B.P., DUCKHAM'S, SHELL, MOBILOIL, ESSO, CASTROL and STERNOL.
Funny, don't you think, that neither TESCO, ASDA or MORRISON'S oil is mentioned?

Halfords not mentioned either, or ESM or Bull Motif for that matter

Re: oil
Now THIS is the best thread ever!!!
I can't find 20W50 in any of the s/markets mentioned now - but Wiko have it and the price is right. And yes - I have used nothing else for years and years now. It will be 'recycled' oil - but so is your drinking water!

Re: oil
You should use EP90 oil in the Morris Minor steering rack.PSL184 wrote:20W/50 multigrade from supermarkets is fine for the engine and gearbox (change engine oil every 3000 miles). I know that's what the manual says but it always falls out the holes in my rack gaiterschickenjohn wrote:You should use EP90 oil in the Morris Minor steering rack.PSL184 wrote:20W/50 multigrade from supermarkets is fine for the engine and gearbox (change engine oil every 3000 miles). Re: oil
The EP90 oil stays in the rack between services if you have good gaiters sealed up at the ends! (Clips or big cable ties do the job).
