Hello, I have noticed that when I stop there is a fairly rapid drip of water coming from the front of the engine close to the front pulley of which the fan belt is on. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It is definitely water and not oil. Thank you

Only thing I can think of is the water pump gasket. Check the nut tightness first, there are about 4 or 5 of them all the way round and the lower ones are harder to get to.

Is the leak on the engine block or elsewhere?

Hello, I am a newbie to the moggy, where abouts are these nuts positioned ?

It is dripping in the front of the engine sump in the same position after every run

it is as if it is coming from the bottom pulley for the fan belt

It will probably be the stupid bypass hose -fit a new (solid wall - NOT concertina) one urgently! It will let go at any moment.

where about is the bypass hose ??

A piccy would be helpful.... not sure if water pumps can fail and then leak from the pulley attachment.

Basically the nuts I'm on about are way behind the pulley, attaching the water pump to the engine itself.

I wouldn't worry too much unless you are losing a lot of water and/or overheating, ie. steaming.

Just keep topping up the water in the rad. and put up a photo!!

thanks folks will put up a photo tomorrow I have had a look at the bypass hose with a torch and it does look pretty perished and the jubilees are rusted hopefully it is just this that needs replacing !

A simple job you say? That's what I thought... water pump off, new hose then manoeuvre into position. Unfortunately not as easy as that when the spigots are almost the length of the hose and you only have about two eighths of an inch of rubber to bend... Believe me I tried (and failed) this many times... wish I'd just taken the head off and saved myself much aggro.

Bmc, I would like to see a video of you changing the bypass hose as easily as you say.... I am genuinely intrigued!

can't see how you have trouble with it just take the pump off fit the hose to the pump refit the pump pushing the hose onto the head connection as you do it.last time I did mine took about 40 minutes Certainly wouldn't be touching the head,then would need new head gasket and all the trouble of re fitting.If mine ever went again,I would close off the connection to the head and fit the mini pump and get rid of the bypass its more bother than its worth.

Turns out it is the bypass hose, and thank you both for pointing this out to me I would never of guessed it would be that. There was a small pinhole just under the top jubilee clip. I shall be replacing it today so I will let you know how I get on,

Yes it's a bit of a pain to do especially with a thick walled bypass hose but not that bad. Certainly doesn't need the head off....

Just cut the hose to the correct length - no need for any struggling - but probably wise to have a water pump gasket in stock...... And yes - I am greatly in favour of eliminating the ghastly bypass hose. Cue Richard.....

Just further to the water pump bypass hose fitting I changed pumps on my car today. Old pump off, new one on including bypass hose - total time 20 minutes including removing and replacing radiator...
