Do the seats on the sidevalve engine wear due to this wonderful petrol blend we are forced to use? After all,I cant imagine the petrol of today is worse than the stuff used when the cars were made.
Usualy, old engines have extremely hard seats(in my experience)so I wonder if anyone has had a problem with this.

A tip I have heard (and yet to try) to help preserve old engines is to add a mix of 2-stroke oil to the petrol (about a 1:100 mix), which, put it this way, if it doesn't do any good it certainly won't do any harm.

Most Series MMs probably do less than 2000 miles per year so the effects or lack of additives will not be significant, and whereas it is not too much trouble to change an A Series head, modifications to a side valve are an engine out job. However serious consideration should be given to replacing valves, inserts and guides with unleaded items as part of an engine rebuild

Thanks for the advice, I have had concerns about fuel too.
I have been watching this thread for recommendations.

Looks like the two stroke option will be best.My car is not back on the road yet after a thirty year lay up!I do have some concerns about the petrol quality.I will give that a try.
Cheers guys,thanks for your input.
