hi

is this any good for my 1098?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-METRO-SE ... 20c4bdf57b

if not what is the best , and straightforward, alternative to the standard head, not realy looking for more power just a easy to source replacment and unleaded would be a bonus,
also any advantage with forged rockers instead of the origonals
my head is apparantly no good for rebuilding due to craking around the exhaust valve seats,

cheers
john

That's a 998 head, so has slightly smaller inlet valves than the standard 12G202 (1 1/16" as opposed to 1 5/32"), which would tend to reduce power output. However the combustion chamber on the 998 head is slightly smaller, which results in a raised compression ratio. You may notice the difference, you may not.

One other thing to bear in mind is that it doesn't have the heater tap hole at the back of the head, although it can be drilled fairly easily. May not have a bypass hose connector either, so it's not a truly straight swap.

£40 is IMO very steep indeed for a 998 head. You should easily be able to acquire a 12G202 for that money - you used to be able to get them for a few pounds apiece.

Indeed -it is VERY overpriced - these heads are often given away free.....indeed even I have done so in the past. Let's see a picture of the 'cracking' on your head. Does it go right across from one throat to the next? Oh -and the standard steel rockers on a Minor are far better then the sintered ones..... they are NOT 'forged' !
