Cutting out.

My Moggie,running a 1275 head and carb to suit, I didnt do it so dont know the details but its been done to recommendations on here. It cuts out in traffic and at lights,even when its been running for ages. I assumed it was the tickover speed that was wrong,so I just warmed it up with the choke, ran it on tickover til it was warm and the choke fully home expecting it to stall,but it hasn't, it didn't even threaten to. What else could be causing it to stall at lights or approaching junctions at low speed?

Drag from the clutch? Does it do it if you knock in to neutral and coast up to the lights...... Otherwise - could be fuel surging in the carb... what carb is it?

I dunno what carb it is,it looks similar to a normal 1098 one,but it isn't. What causes "clutch drag"? Could this be related to clutch not returning to its operating position if I'm braking and gearing down? The clutch pedal is something I'm trying to get to mve more smoothly at the minute.

The carb is an SU HIF38.

Clutch drag - if being pressed down too far/too hard puts a load on the engine (and wears out the carbon thrust) - so that drag can stall the engine..... Best to absolutely minimise use of the clutch ...certainly never sit with foot on clutch. Clutch down - into gear - clutch up right away. And same the other way, clutch down - out of gear - clutch up. Simples......

I'm wondering if I need to adjust the clutch pedal on the Traveller, as this issue doesn't happen on our saloon,and the clutch is quite noticeably lighter on the Saloon

Sounds like it! But of course - it may just have a heavy return spring fitted.

Is there a return spring on the clutch? I would like my Traveller to be more civilised to drive as it is a lovely car otherwise. However the clutch is a bit rough to be honest, and after driving our Saloon,which is very forgiving and gentle I would like to make the Traveller more user friendly,cos it does feel like hard work,but still enjoyable.to drive.

Look under - there is a spring from the arm to the backplate on the engine.........
