Hey having passed my MOT on friday im now planning my holidays, i will be driving from manchester to groningen, netherlands at the end of May, so im just getting everything ready gonna service the car in the next week and take it on a shake down run up to whitby in a fortnight.
Im just trying to work out what i need to take, ive got warning triangle hi-vis bulbs etc, someone recently told me that a breathaliser was neccesary, is this true?
Also do i need a GB plate/sticker? Has anyone any pictures of how they have affixed theirs? ive been looking at vintage plates on ebay as i dont really want to put a modern sticker on the boot lid.
How many spares would you suggest carrying. ive got things like ignition components and fan belt, but is it worth taking anything more,

Fit a GB plate (a proper black and white one) on the nearside as this will be the offside on Continental roads.

Seek advice from the AA or RAC as to what you need to take with you and what you are legally obliged to take.

You must have a reflective vest for every passenger you carry.

Know what those awful metres and kilometres translate into real money. 50 kmph = 30 mph.

Europewide breakdown cover is highly recommended, just in case.

A gallon of engine oil will see any well-maintained British car through a fortnight's tour.

Apply some headlamp stickers so the beam is deflected to the right instead of the left.

A foot pump and good spare tyre (which you should carry anyway).

I reckon engine oil is obtainable in most of europe..... No need to weigh down with that. Carry a head gasket and a complete known working dizzy, and a known working fuel pump as the bare minimum spare parts.

hi a spare set of keys,with at least one set always outside the car when stopped,I once took four sets with four people to italy in a 2.5PI ,it turned out at a roadside cafe in SWITZERLAND all FOUR KEYS WERE LOCKED IN THE CAR

Bzzzt! 20/50 is quite hard to find on the continent.

Reflective vests need to be accessible inside the car so you don't get squished on the way to the boot.

The RAC/AA should be able to advise, first aid kit and fire extinguisher might also be needed.
Get anything you need well before you see the eye watering prices on the ferry!

Fit a tow bar and pull a trailer with a spare moggy on the back. You'll always have a moggy that works on your person.
