hey, i have been offered choice of an A series 1275 block and an A+ 1275 block for FREE to build an engine for my traveller its running th original 1098 at the moment but im looking to build the 1275 to put in while i rebuild 1098
i understand about new gearbox, brakes etc and these are being done also as the year goes on
please just advise as to which would be the better starting block (get the pun) for the project
thanks for the time

depends what you mean as a 'starting point'. If you're wanting to modify the 1275, the A+ would be better as it's a stronger casing.
If the non A+ one is from a midget, that could be easier to fit to your minor, as the midget backplate fits the minor gearbox directly.
I believe you'll also need to use a minor front plate (with the 'ears' for the engine mounts') on the A+ to get it to fit, but a midget 1275 should drop straight in.

Makes no real difference - if the A engine has the side mount oil filter (same as the 1098) I would personally go for that to preserve the original look rather than the high mount (= messy when you change it) oil filter.
