Ok completed 1 side, next Hub off,the Seal has "bonded" (melted?) to the hub,so dissolved with Acetone,Nail Varnish Remover, and scraped and dissolved and scraped and...... So I go to put the new seal in,but I dont think its in far enough, its sitting on a "shoulder" and I dont think the Bearing will go in enough to seat flat against the Hub with the seal where it is.I cannot Drift the seal any further without compromising its integrity, but if I dont the Bearing will be tight against the seal, not how it was on the other side with a gap between the Bearing and the seal. Any ideas??????

Is it possible the hub has been "repaired" it looks as if an insert or collar has been fitted inside the hub,and has lessened its diameter, was this done if the stub axle became scarred?

Indeed there are collar systems sold to fit over the axle to give a nice smooth surface for the seal to run on.

This is inside the hub,and would appear, now someone else has mentioned it,a different type of seal (maybe Factory Original) anyway it no longer has any rubber on it & has to come off,or I have to put another one on (I've asked in the wanted section) I need to have the car up and running by tomorrow PM if at all possible,as I have become the owner of a Traveller and think I am getting the Moggie sickness as someone has just told me where there is a Saloon growing moss 100yds from my house. Its all getting a bit much (and I've got a stinking cold to boot) Happy Easter all,be Beltane soon.

Are you not just seeing the remains of an old seal left inside the hub - drift it out!
