metro Inlet studs and HIF38 question

I've just obtained a HIF38 carb and metro alloy inlet (yey).
I've noticed however that one of the studs in the inlet is shorter than the others - I think it has come loose, because it can spin around and someone hack sawed (quite recently) the bolt off. Someone sawed the end off the nut/stud anyway!
Is it something replaceable? I trialed screwing a bolt on - it just fits:
I can't tighten it much though, because it spins around - If its ok to leave it in I'd have to secure it somehow? I was thinking of sawing a slot in the end for a screwdriver?
I'd appreciate any input!
Also - is it ok to clean with plain old washing up liquid, any bits I should be careful about? And how on earth do I get the plunger from the dashpot?

Tighten the stud as best you can - but maybe the thread is stripped? Probably been shortened for clearance. You screwed a NUT on - not a bolt!! Clean with alloy wheel cleaner spray - and/or carb cleaner using a tooth brush - but a good wash is fine too as long as you dry it. Don't remove the piston - just carefully clean the rim. As long as it slides nicely. that's fine.

Haha, yes a nut!
The thread is pretty mangled, but i managed to get it out - didn't know they were screwed in. Ordered a spare one - rather put one with a decent thread on that's the right length. Just got some carb cleaner and alloy wheel cleaner - give it a go this weekend.

Make sure you clean the tooth brush v carefully before re-use......

oh - I dunno - carb and ally wheel cleaner does wonders for your teeth

This carb cleaner is good stuff - haven't started with the wheel cleaner on the inlet yet. I think the Asda value toothbrushes arn't going to last much longer though
Roni - although that plunger was stuck I managed to get it out by shaving some of the plastic top off so I could get a spanner round it. I was actually talking about the other end of the dashpot - the huge metal one that has the needle in!

With the piston pushed all the way up, you should find a circlip around the top. Ping that off and the piston should drop out of the bell. It's a feature of the HIF carbs that the HS's don't have.
