Fuel pump sparking?

My old fuel pump seems to be giving up the ghost, well everytime I try and accelerate it splutters a bit, could be a low on fuel tanke and bad breather I suppose, or dirt in the pump or carb, but the click click of the pump is very weak, anyway I took the black top off and everytime it clicked it spraked, is that normal so close to petrol?

I doubt it's the pump causing your problem - yes there can be a little park. Clean the points, or just leave well alone..... What colour are the spark plugs?? If you ease the choke out a bit - does it accelerate better then??
