i am having a couple of gearboxes rebuilt, so i can drop one in to replace the current faulty one and then have that repaired. I will have a spare rebuilt gearbox for sale soon, dont think i need 2 spares........... anyway one of the ones im having rebuilt is from a midget i think, it has a reverse ligth which is pretty exciting, but other than that is there any benefit in fitting a midget gearbox? if not i can just have the tailshaft section fitted to a normal morris gearbox so that i have a reverse light.

Depends what box - but if a ribbed box, it has better internals.

Internal parts are in short supply, not interchangeable with 1098 box. 1st gear can still sound like a bag of spanners

The top part (not sure what its called) with the reversing switch is interchangable, mine has gone from a midget box onto a 1098 then back onto a different midget box over the years, allowing me to maintain my reversing light.
