Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
I have a 1961 car that I'm treating to some TLC ahead of the National Rally.
I'd like to replace the parcel shelf since it has sagged and rotted at the back (looks like a radio was fitted at some point that didn't help). As a result of the sagging the heater control knob plays a large part in holding it up. The "crash pad" is also missing.
The parcel self is light grey and the heater cover is light beige. The problem I'm running into is that all I can find are black ones! Does anyone know if a light grey parcel shelf is sold anywhere? Or a light beige heater cover?
I wonder if it's possible to spray the heater cover light beige but I suspect this will result in the paint cracking after a short time. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there's a specific paint to use?
I'd like to keep my car as original looking as possible - a new black shelf and heater cover would look worse than what's already there.
Thanks in advance!

Newton Commercial are your best bet and they do all interior parts for all ages of car.

Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
I think you're right, only black (as on the later cars) is available new. It is possible to respray them the colour you need. I managed a Series 2 one a year or two back using aerosol cans into the light grey/beige and it worked well. Paints still on it too!
Experiment on an old one before commiting to the new...

Thanks for the replies!
If there aren't any light grey colour parcel shelves available I may have a go at repairing the existing one first. I'll try spraying a black heater cover...

Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
We just brought a new interior from newton commercials and they only do black.
Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
I think they will do a crash pad and heater fascia in the earlier grey colour but you have to ask them to make it for you.

Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
I think that the heater was only available in black anyway it sounds to me that it has painted previously, as i think the parcel shelf and trim have been also.
Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
For the early 1000's the heater was certainly only in black but was covered by a card shroud so that only the on/off/speed switch showed. This, along with the crash pad was a grey colour as per photo

Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
Per the "Original Morris Minor" pg 64 the colour should be "Pearl Grey" and now I have my old parcel shelf out I can see that the factory seem to have sprayed both the parcel shelf and heater cover all the one colour. I managed to get a spray paint can with an identical colour so I'll try spraying it - it looks like that's what the factory did anyway.

Re: Parcel shelf and heater cover colour
They wouldn't when i asked a couple of years back, and suggested I sprayed black ones, which is exactly what I did. It's basically down to 'millboard' only being manufactured in black. Things may have moved on since then though...brucek wrote:I think they will do a crash pad and heater fascia in the earlier grey colour but you have to ask them to make it for you.
