Hello, I have a late type Series II black 4 door saloon. I want it to be as original as possible. What colour should the wheels and radiator grill be? I have them cream but I have a feeling that's not right.

Body colour seems to be the consensus after looking at the forums

Late series 2's ie Oct 54 onwards with slatted grille should have birch grey wheels and grille...Early series 2's ie Sep 50 to Oct 54 would have been body colour....

I was always told and read it was always body colour, only Minor 1000s had grille and wheels in a different colour, if you like that then do it!

This is very weird, i was just about to ask the exact same question and this was the first post that came up on new posts.

We are having our 1960 pickup repainted and initially thought that the wheels and grill should be old english white, however, looking at the chart attached i believe everything should be pearl grey, the same colour as the car.

Can anyone confirm this as the car is in the sprayers now so don't really have much time to make a decision. haha.

Your Pick Up wheels would have been silver (LCV's were different to saloons).....

Think only the later cars had silver wheels - early ones were as the table says either OEW or Pearl Grey. Always felt Pearl Grey was a bit of a disappointing colour - not quite grey and a bit of a mucky white! Still, if it's originality you want then it would have to be PG. One of the reasons I changed the colour of my '59 convertible was because it's original colour was PG. Have opted for period Clipper Blue now and it's a great colour.

LCV's were different to cars......

Low Lights/MM until march 51 had chrome grilles and hub caps, from march 51 -september 51 front grilles and and hub caps were painted body colour due to a lack of Nikel because of the war in Korea. september 51 - 56 the series II had body colour grille and wheels with chrome hub caps, 1956-71 Minor 1000's had O E W grille and wheels with chrome hub caps very late Minor 1000 had chrome outer wheel trim as well as hub cap, Commercials 1953-1960 had body colour grille and silver wheels, 1960 till the end of production including Austin badged versions had O E W grille and silver wheels.

Some inaccuracies in the above statement. You missed the distinction between early and late series 2's and the very latest cars used Snowberry white not OEW. Rather than anyone else confusing the OP even further with guesses, can I suggest he gets hold of a copy of Ray Newells book to research the subject himself.

My original condition S.II is black and has black wheels with Birch grille. Wheels in the body colour look good.
