Rear Brake Help

Hi everyone, i am hoping someone can kindly help me please?
I am replacing the brakes on my wifes 1967 Morris 1000 and having replaced the cylinders, springs and shoes on the rear I cannot for love nor money get the drum back on. The fronts have been done (8") and they slipped on no problem at all.
The adjusters are wound in. Is there anything anyone can suggest to help please?

Welcome to the forum..... panic not - the drums will go on! You need to slacken the handbrake cables where they attach to the lever in the cab between the front seats. Take the adjuster nuts well forward, fit the drums and adjust up at the cylinders - and only then, tighten the cable adjusters till the handle operates just where you like it. Some like almost instant action at 2 or 3 notches - others like a bit more travel at say 4 or 5 notches.

Have you got the shoes the correct way round? The shoe with the circular cut out located in the adjuster.
Don't forget to grease the cables if they have grease nipples, and oil the inner cable where it comes out of the outer cable on to the rear brake lever

Thanks guys, the handbrake is not connected yet and the shoes are both the right way round, as in the adjuster is in the cut out and the curved end of the other is on the other side. It really makes no sense, I am thinking of taking a grinder to the other end of the shoes and taking a couple of mill of each?

Just centre the shoes - the drums will go on. Although - there have been a number of similar stories recently - I believe resolved by filing a leading edge on each shoe. Also make sure the cylinders can slide easily in the backplate slots.

Never had trouble getting the rear drums on. As long as you carry out the previously mentioned checks and make sure that the piston is fully compressed. Line the drum up with the wheel studs and tap the shoes sideways or up or down until the drums slip over.
Unless we are seeing a batch of poor quality pattern brake linings?
