Hi
your choice really. Points for me on a 25d for 29.95. Good deal really.

I too would just get points - but the 45D is newer design of dizzy and very much the better bet.

Thanks for replies, looked through the box of bits I got with the second trav and found another dist seems to be OK have cleaned it up and will fit soon and see if it does the job. Just in case is the 45d a direct replacement what difference does it make to the engine over the 25d, what is upgraded .

With Great advice from Bmc. And got a 25d points ignition.
Now running and pulling like a train.
Cold not be happier. Points are the way to go.
and a new distributor from
www.simonbbc.com is excellant value for money
And you no the vacuum unit is new too which was clapped on mine as well.
Hope this helps
Tom

If it was me i would not bother with an old dissy found in a box.
Well worth going for gold and putting a new one on.

Points are the way to go.
Only if you don't mind adjusting them regularly, modern electronic ignition is vastly more reliable than it used to be 20 years ago.

Most of us seem to have a favourite. Just use the one you prefer, points or electronic and carry a spare base plate with a set of points etc to swap over if you have a problem.

Looking on their web site they talk about Powerspark points system, is that different to the normal points arrangement. Or to put it another way, can regular points be fitted to these distributors if needed in the future?

Not all parts are swappable between original and reproduction distributors. I've got one of the new reproduction ones and I don't think a vacuum unit from it will fit an original. Also some of the screw threads are different. A lumenition kit didn't fit in a repro, I had to use an original baseplate.

Hi I find ajusting my points and other things quite good fun as this is always a part of running an old classic car .
VERY EASY TO DO!!

Thanks, I thought things might vary rather than stick to the original! My distributor is fine but though it would be nice to start fresh at that price---I'll maybe give it more thought now.

Went with electronic after rubbish new condensers broke me down twice in dangerous places on the motorway, wish the original never broke! I didn't mind adjusting the points, and going to keep them in the boot for emergencies.
