OK the Minor instrumentation is a bit sparse, so what supplementary gauges do you have fitted? I highly recommend the Smiths combined oil pressure/water temperature gauge (about £75 new reconditioned).

Another favourite of mine is the coloured vacuum gauge, which is also a favourite of a certain Scottish member.... [frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Neat dual gauge and very sort after on ebay. Out of interest, what are the two switches flanking the speedo? And is your motor the 803cc ?

And don't forget that all important Revcounter - for counting the revs, although - why I can't quite imagine......

The two switches are non-standard. The one on the right is for the screen washers, on the left with amber warning lamp is the switch for the fog lamp.

BMC, I thought about fitting a rev counter, if only to add gravity to the fact of the valves bouncing when making the change from 3rd to top.

The Series MM is better equipped than the later Minors, having an oil pressure gauge as well as the fuel gauge. I have added the glovebox lid clock and a temperature gauge and ammeter in magnolia to match the speedo. I am working on a mechanical rev counter to match the speedo also.
The Traveller has the oil pressure/water temp gauge which I bought many years ago when the price was nearer £7 than £70, and as I already had it in the box of gauges, a 52mm rev counter which is too small to be of any practical use. To fill the third hole in the inst pod is a voltmeter.
Mr. Javelin, if you swapped your wiper switch for a light switch you could wire the washers to it and do away with the extra switch[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, but I'll keep her as she is. I like gadgets to play with (although in cars such as the Minor you can overdo it), plus I'll be left with a defunct switch or a gaping hole in the dash!

A pet hate of mine is the fitting of gauges in the glove box lid. Completely defies the idea of a glove box.

Glove boxes on later cars, of course. The Series MM driver's 'glove box' as you know was actually the instrument panel, and clocks on MMs were a factory option.

It just seems wrong to me to see a handle for the glove box and then the lid stuffed with gauges so you can't actually use it.

I would contend that, on Minors with two glovebox lids, the driver's side lid is so cumbersome (due to steering wheel) that it makes more sense to take out the box and put gauges in, as I have done, or remove the lid, as was done on later Minors.

Is the combined gauge mechanical or electric? I currently have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and a capillary temp gauge, if the Smith's temp/press is the same I might look at getting one. Looks quite smart.

You can get the combined gauge in 3 options for the water temp scale; Degrees Centigrade, Fahrenheit or a scale which just reads C - N - H (Cold, Normal and Hot). Mine came with the capillary sender attached and I only had to buy a fitting kit for the oil pressure.

For the price secondhand units go for, you might as well buy a recon gauge for a little extra and have peace of mind that you aren't going to have hot oil at 50 lbs going all over the interior.

When my oil pipe broke it was 70psi all over the engine compartment.
If you buy a dual gauge it should come with all the fittings
