Morris Minor Owners Club

I we my father and I own a 54 series II with a badly cracked 3 spoke steering wheel, I've seen the remanufactured wheels and yes they look very nice as does the cost. My question is, does anybody know if someone in club repairs them, or knows of a company that does.

I was quoted around £100 for a repair and recolour in black.

If you want an original looking 'marbled' one it would cost circa £300+

There are often steering wheels on eBay and usable, un split ones, go for £30-35 on average

Thankyou C6. I've been in touch with them today and fell of the chair when they quoted 375 +VAT to re cast the wheel. Probably because it's the rarer grey marble type. We can't justify over £400 just for a steering wheel in these times. If there is a cheaper way or a way of doing a DiY repair then that would be an option, knowing that it may cost more in the long run is a factor we'll have to live with. Has anyone tried epoxy resin as a repair?

You can get repair kits with epoxy resin, paint etc. but they are for a base colour.

'Marbled' wheels are, as you found out, very expensive.

You can nearly buy a restoration car for the same money..........

Cheers C6, will see what i can find as to an expoxy repair kit, not really in the market for another project just yet and if prices keep going up as they are will be a few more years still. Thanks again.

Have a look on you tube, there are some videos about repairing cracked steering wheel there.
If you make the edges of the repair a bit uneven I doubt it would show.

Thanks all I've spent the afternoon mixing fibre glass resin and then injecting into the cracks with a syringe, luckily the hardner for the resin made it a pale grey in colour so dosn't look to bad on a grey marble wheel, will be using a very fine grinding stone with my dremil tomorrow and get it smooth and contoured, hopefully it'll look as good as new.
