I have a four door saloon. under heavy breaking the rear seat back flops forward. can any one tell me or show with a photo how i stop this happening.

Have checked rear shelf no little pin and no strap

That's not entirely unexpected - over the years, the pin unscrews and is lost in the darkest recesses of the car and the strap just gets brittle and breaks. You should be able to see a hole where the strap would have fastened to. Just look on the back of the rear seat for a screw probably in a cup washer. This would have held the strap in years gone by. With the backrest in its normal place look in the boot and directly above where the strap should be you will see a hole in the metal framework where the fastener used to be.

I'm not sure if any of the suppliers do this part but in reality they are very easy to make. You just need to visit your local craft store and pick up the necssary pieces.

Mog just has a hook mounted on the rear of the seat back, and a piece of wood that slots in. Keeps the seat in place.

I took my driving test in a 62 convertible and the examiner almost jumped with fright when during the emergency stop the rear seat shot forward into the back of his seat !!!!!!!

My Moggy has 2 threaded holes at each end of the rear of the seat. These holes line up with 2 corresponding holes into the boot, where 2 'butterfly head' bolts are used to attach the seat.

Just stick some decent magnets to the back of the rear seat, and 2 more to the meal on the bit behind (or no magnets depending on how the metal is there)
