Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help, But my ign light is on but I don’t even have the keys in the Ignition. it starts and runs ok. I have fairly recently had an Alternator fitted and they replaced the relay box with a dummy one that has no internals. But the pick-up has ran perfect since them.
Hope someone can help.
Nick

if your ignition light is on with no key in, it an indication that the alternator is faulty. Where did yours come frome. Is it new ?

They have wired up the 'Ign' light incorrectly - and why did they change the Regulator? Best to just leave it in place!! Take the car back to them - and refer them to the extremely simple diagram at the head of this section......

They obviously are NOT 'very good' if they left you with the IGN light on all the time ! Does the alternator actually charge the battery??

I had this once on a Land Rover. The regulator in the back of the alternator had gone faulty and was feeding back to the ign light all the time.....

thanks everyone, I took the car back today and they found that the alternator was faulty, don't know how it failed.
I was wondering if it could have anything to do with the other garage i took the car to about a week afterwards to get an Accuspark dizzy fitted?? They fitted one, but it wouldn't run smoothly. I got them a replacement and that still didn't work. I was then sent replacement internal parts but in the end they put the standard one back in and said they could not fit the electronic one.
Thanks

Well - I would avoid them like the plague! Swapping a dizzy is the simplest thing in the world........

And why should the alternator have failed - did they comment on what was wrong with it?

Its likely to have been a diod short in the rectifier. It happens but not on a new one. Someone will be allong soon to tell me Im wrong.

Yes - that is the fault - but how did it happen is the question here.......

If I rember from my electric lessons the diod pack will short if you reverse polarity

Exactly (or perhaps by running the engine with no battery connected) - but I didn't want to accuse the 'garage' of that directly!
