Forgotten enjoyment

I have had my pick up on the road for just over a month now and covered over a thousand miles with out problems, I have enjoyed the simple driving pleasure but also enjoyed a new experience from my driving which I had forgotten and thats the involvement of working with the car as it needs it, First the gearbox seemed to be getting stiff so I changed the gearbox oil, a simple and basic job that only took minutes but it was rewarding, yesterday I adjusted the fan belt as it started slipping, again it only took minutes and left me with a good feeling, I wanted to do another job on it, this morning a had to open up[ the points gap, it only took minutes abd I will check the ignition timing properly tomorrow but it drives nicely and I will enjoy some more miles in the morris today, this is a big part missing from modern driving, there is no involvement with the mechanics of the car.
