just fitting a new wiring harness and would like some advise with the wiring on the fuel pump, the earth wire for the pump has a second wire attatched, if that makes sence, the earth as i understand it is part of the loom, surely you dont have to run a second earth wire from the earth connector to the car body? i hope that made sence, any help would be great. regards steve

There is a short earth wire from the pump body to the pump mounting bolt on the battery case. The only other wire is the white supply wire which connects to the screw terminal on the pump.

what you say makes total sence, but i have been replaceing lead for lead as i have been going around the car, and the original wiring had a earth lead within the loom, which connected to the pump caseing, the new loom also has the same arangment but where you now connect the earth, there is a second branch in the loom with a small round connector on the end ( just the right size for putting a small self tap screew to a body earth point. i think i will first try with the second lead dis connected then try with it to earth. regards steve

my first thought was that it also earthed the wiper motor, but this has its own earth within the loom. i will have to do some more head scratching in the morning.

The wiper motor earth goes into the loom for a few inches and then comes out to connect on the fuel pump and then to earth on the body at the battery tray (on mine it does, anyway).

thanks for that, but for me to earth on the battery box i will either need to fit a bigger ring connecter or drill a small hole and attatch it by a self tapper, regards steve

Can't have too many earths - just connect it!
