Handbrake Run Picture

Can someone please point me in the direction of a photo/picture that shows the run of both the handbrake cables under the car on a saloon model

Look under the car and you will see them run from the propshaft tunnel next to the front seats to the back brake drums

One side looks OK but the other side hangs beneath the exhaust but does not touch it that is why I am after a picture so that I can understand what the clipping points should be or are missing

i just had a thought. is it possible to modify or strengthen up the handbrake sufficiently so it can stop the car quite quickly in the event of a brake fail?

The rear brakes, single leading shoe, will never be anywhere near as good as the twin leading show front, and also weight distribution rules in favour of the front. That said, a well adjusted handbrake should still be able to stop the car, and hold it on a hill - no need to modify it, just maintain it properly.

The cable is secured only at each end where it passes through the propshaft tunnel and where it passes through the cable stop on the back brake drums

do not under any circumstances yank the handbrake on whilst the car is moving at speed - you will loose control of the car and it will probably kill you.

The easy answer for better rear braking is - fit the larger 8" rear brakes from a Wolseley 1500! That easily locks the wheels - ideal for handbrake turns.... Otherwise - you would need to increase the leverage on the shoes - by extending the operating arm. Obviously this will increase the handbrake lever movement inside in the car. Not known it to be done on a Minor - but common enough Mini mod for 'Autotest' cars.

Never had a problem with locking the wheels with the standard brakes ... however I've only ever had a standard engine too!
