Hi Folks,
I plan to replace Jethro's high level parking lights with orange indicators so I will have the advantage of proper flashing direction lights while keeping the original semaphore trafficators.
Would I need to fit a flasher unit and switch for each side or a single flasher unit and two way switch?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated. [frame][/frame]

Am I right in thinking that a mechanical Bi-metal type flasher unit would require a certain load to operate correctly, my two replacement indicators are only 3 watts each.

The original semaphore units have 3 watt bulbs so I was thinking of using 10 watt bulbs in the flashing indicators but that was not my question. I need to know what power bulbs would be the minimum to operate a mechanical Bi - Metal strip flasher unit.

2 X 21 watt bulbs.

The problem with your repeaters and trafficators is that they are not visible from the opposite side of the car. The wiring diagram is designed for fitting front and rear 21W indicators. These can be fitted on brackets under the bumpers so that they can be removed if necessary.

Understood Mike, I may have to look into fitting front and rear indicators after all and leave the parking lights as they are.

You can fit stop tail lamps into the front side lights and that will give you a flashing front indicator, very neat and you not drilling and new holes. On the back as said before your probably best hanging a traveller type lens down below the back bumper.

Alternately at the front you could use Lucas L488 holders and clear glass lenses and use 'Chrome' indicator bulbs in them as they flash orange, but look pretty close to the original type sidelights, nice and flat, although a bit larger in diameter.

The L488 holders are deeper so the bulb sits further back, allowing you to use the flatter lens aka:[frame][/frame]

What's wrong with hand signals? If you want a car with indicators buy a later model...

Personally I'm happy with hand signals or trafficators, it's the muppets who have never seen or used a hand signal and don't know what a trafficator is when it pops out that worry me when driving a classic car!

Could try these under the rear bumper, nice & discrete.

For those who ignore hand signals: whilst you have your arm out give them one they will understand!

Here's photos of the motorcycle indicators that I fitted on my TD. I don't thik they would look out of place on a Moggy either and they are quite cheap approx 17GBP.

That's what's basically on mine, except their under the bumper rather than over it
