Exhausting

As lily is getting a bit noisy and the exhaust manifold has been retightened twice i'm thinking a new exhaust is a worthwhile way of spending the money from my second job!!

So i'm thinking stainless steel - but do people think 1, 2 or 3 piece units are the best bet?

2 piece is easier to fit.

Are you sure that you don't just need a new manifold clamp?

And try a ring of copper wire (cut a bit of earth from 2.5mm T&E mains cable) wrapped around the pipe immediately below the flange so that it is sandwiched with the clamp. This cures many fitting problems, along with a small amount of silencer paste. If you do go for the new system, then as above 2 piece is easy to fit. I've never tried the 3 piece ones, but understand that they are OK.

It had a new clamp put on a few weeks ago and this has made her sound less like a tractor, but she still sounds very blowy - i mean it's liveable with (and no-one else has commented!) but at some point it will need doing i think.

Prewarned and all that - but i'll see how her MOT goes first - there'll probably be something motre urgent from that.

If the exhaust is leaking - that will fail the MOT. So best to sort it out beforehand.

I find it's always better to sort out any issues you know about before an MOT, if they only find one thing wrong you are more likely to get a pass and an advisory, if there are 3 things a straight fail is on the cards.

With the engine running, feel around the manifold clamp for any blowing. Do not touch. If blowing check exhaust pipe flange. If it is not damaged jack under the silencer and wind up until the pipe is correctly fitted on the manifold then fit the clamp.
