Engine Colours

Hi,

Im going to be removing my engine soon, so i thought i would repiant it at the same time. The only thing is the engine does not appear to be mowog green. Its a lighter blue-er shade nearer to the almond green car paint then anything else i can think of.
Does anybody know what colour this is?
I ahve attached some pictures they aren't amazing but may help a bit.
The engine is an 803cc 1955 if that helps

I'm in the same boat. Personally I strongly dislike BMC green, so fortunately for me my 803 engine, like yours, is painted in this bluish colour (the sump, btw, is red).

Mine has had an unleaded head on it which is in the BMC green, but I'm going to repaint it in the correct blue when I get round to it.

IMPORTANT - The correct colour is 'Land Rover Blue'. This is an excellent colour match, you have to select it from the drop-down list.

Expensive for a small 500ml tin but can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Sorry Missed the last line which describes the '55 - 803cc. Should have twigged from the tapet chest cover doh!

It will almost certainly NOT be BMC green but the blue/grey that has been mentioned. Good luck in your search for the right colour

Update. IGNORE MY EARLIER POST ABOUT THE FROST SUPPLIED PAINT. I ordered some at £19.41, and thought I'd have a nice afternoon prepping and painting the rocker cover. That was until I opened the tin and found this 'Land Rover Blue' was actually a pastel green. But I stirred it up and gave it a coat, hoping it might dry differently, but no, as you can see.
I'll upload a photo when my bleeding camera battery charges up, just to add to my annoyance.

On the plus side, I think I've found another supplier I'll phone tomorrow. Check out the colour chart and tell me which colour you think best matches 803 colour (I know all the shades are slightly different).

I think nos. 102 and 103, Turquoise and Peacock are the closest match.

Now why didn't I look here in the first place?????

All well and good but no mention of suppliers or paint codes. Perhaps Mr. Tenbury could help seeing as he did such a good job colour matching and painting his?

On my 1956 S.II the sump is (was) red whilst the rest is this peculiar blue/grey of which there seems to be endless variations... As long as I can get a similar colour I'm not fussed.

However, I am NOT painting it the ubiqitous BMC green, which I detest.

Land Rover marine blue - as used by IaininTenbury - is a blue/grey shade (code JCC/LRC6). You have bought Land Rover blue engine paint which, as you have found out, is an entirely different colour - light duck egg blue/green. What made you think that it was "an excellent colour match" for your engine?

If you do a Google search you will find plenty of suppliers selling Land Rover Marine Blue paint but obviously check out the colour first before you buy to make sure it's the shade that you want.

The shade of colour printed in the suppliers' catalogue under Land Rover Blue appeared to be an excellent colour match to the grey/green.

But that is beside the point. It's not even blue by any stretch of the imagination and it is wrong to print a completely different colour in the catalogue to the one you actually get.

That is why I'm sending it back and warning others not to make the same mistake.

As Louise points out - it's obvious YOU have mixed up the 'marine' blue with the colour you now have. What I can't get my head round is all this fuss about painting an engine......... oh dear. And if you feel you really MUST - at least take the riveted marker plates off and do the job properly......

I've been through all that palava of taking the name plate off: drilling the rivets out, having swarf stick to the oil in the rocker cover and running the risk of missed particles going into the engine, cleaning everything and then re-riveting the plate only to find there is STILL a weep coming from it.

Engine paint may seem insignificant to you, but I want it to look the part and it is a job which needs doing anyway due to the wrong type of paint being applied in the past which is now flaking off everywhere.

Yes I know I've missed a bit at the back of the head, but I'm not taking the head off for the sake of some paint. I'll go over it later.

Overall I am very pleased with the colour and quality of the paint.

It is heat resistant engine paint and is a British Standards colour, PRU Blue and is available from eBay suppliers in 400ml aerosol cans.

I simply masked the engine bay and components including the spark plugs - no fuss, no muss.

Now that the blighted thing has to come out for overhaul anyway I might aswell do some other bits.
