The ignition light should go off once the car is running and shows that the dynamo or alternator is charging properly. Start to worry if it does not go off when the engine starts. When the engine is fully warm and just running and not moving, the red ignition light will probably just come on a little. That too is quite normal. :D

Light on, engine not running -> Good, the bulb works.
Light on, engine running -> Not good, unless the tickover is a bit slow.

Put another way, if the red light is on then the battery is draining rather than charging. So when you first switch on or are idling with headlights on the red light might be on but should go off when revs pick up. When you are driving the dynamo should be spinning fast enough to provide more current than is being used.

Sorry to disagree but you can be discharging from the battery more than you are charging and the ignition light will not come on, if you fit an ammeter and have main beam, fog lights heater etc on at the same time you will see a discharge. The ignition light goes out when there is enough current produced to close the contacts in the control box

OK ( I have Dynamo )
01. the ignition warning light on when the battery not charge
02. the light on when engine not running
03. the light on the engine run slowly or ( some sparking plug not work )
04. the light off when the battery is charging
tell me
When the engine is fully warm the ignition warning bulb is lighting ?
when the battery full charge ( Ammeter has come to " 0 " ) is the ignition bulb lighting ?

Engine running anything above idle speed, the red light must be OFF.

Turn ignition on - ignition light comes on
Start engine - light goes out
If it does this then no problem

Start engine, light stays on - problem
