Morris Minor Owners Club

I have just acquired a Green 1969 Morris 1000 Saloon its in pretty good nick but i need to sort out the carpets!! Does anyone know the best and more importantly cheapest way to replace the green carpets.
Oh and i am aiming to restore it to its former glory..where the heck do i start...

A good place to start is to join the club, (if you're not there already). The club magazine has lots of adverts from specialist traders and without this you can often waste a lot of time and money.
For carpets I would use Bull Motif, but lots of places sell them.

Thanks for that . I was considering buying a bit of carpet myself and doing it or do you think i will get thrown put of the club for doing that?!

The engine is sound it is just the cosmetics i need to sort out, a respray is def. on the agenda.

You can always do the carpet yourself but a professional carpet set looks nice and will fit well etc...
Personally I'd much rather have the proper carpet and fit it in an hour rather than spend a tenner on some offcut, then spend a day cutting it up and not acheiving the same effect. At a moggy rally, nobody is going to care very much about your carpet so you can do whatever you want (unless you spend years on it to get it to concours level). You'll see plenty of shabby looking cars and they are very welcome - Moggy owners are a very diverse bunch (concours, customisers, people who update the car for comfort, people who leave the car alone, people who run the car because it's cheap motoring, young folks, middle aged and the old timers etc..) and each group has its place as the car has a wide appeal.

As you may find out, some mogs just love it when you spend money on them!

My Hebe has a rather dodgy carpet made up from some of the original 40 year old carpet and a whole lot of off-cuts. It's on my list of "to-do" things for some time this early autumn.

First of all though, I'm wanting to make sure the floor is O.K. Check everything is structurally sound, and that there's no horrid patches which need sorting. Carpets are all cosmetic and while they look wonderful, you really don't want to have to be taking them up in six months time to fix that patch or rust area which has finally got too bad to ignore. (But I'm sure if you're wanting to fix a carpet you've already checked all this! )

The other thing to do is to check that all the seals and gromits are in place. A good one to check is the hole for the gearbox filler cap (which is on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel) - mine had almost come completely off and it was causing a lot of wind noise!

And finally, check your underlay New carpets need new underlay It'll help keep you warmer in the winter and help cut down some of the car noise

Have made the decision to invest in proper carpet!! Just ordered it on the net. All the floor on Molly is fine, all been thoroughly checked over.

Just posted my entry off to the Littlewick green show!! bit scary first show and all! Wanted to go dressed in authentic 1969 costume.. does anyone else do this..!!!?!

erm... not that i've noticed.
On occasions, eg. when they have done a special display of military Moggies then owners have been ion period military outfits, but other than that it's generally not fancy dress for the rest of us.
I hope you enjoy the rally - it's an excellent opportunity to see some fantastic Minors, and hopefully to chat with plenty of other owners.

Ok maybe ill leave the fancy dress then!!

You say the floor is fine, do you mean solid and painted? Sometimes Mogs rot from the inside out and a well painted and sealed floor is worth the effort before you replace the carpets. Also something the think about is if the drivers seat is in the right position for you. there is a choice of mounting holes and it's worth fiddling about to get the seat in the right place before you mark the carpets putting them back in.

Dont worry! It's a very easy job with the seats out. Your local motor parts place will advise you on what's best for the job. Just make sure you do it on a warm dry day and keep the doors open [swoon]

Dont worry! It's a very easy job with the seats out

Unless you find that a previous owner has glued down a layer of underfelt and black sticky stuff (for sound muffling). It took me the best part of a day to scrape the muck off. Let's hope your car had sensible owners in the past!
