Was going to swap out the oil filter head with a new spin-on filter head today. Everything was fine until I tried to remove the front stud that was holding the old head on. The rear stud came out fine, but the front one...not so much. I've got two nuts screwed onto the outer part of the stud and tightened against each other but try as I might, I can't get the stud to budge. Just thought I'd check in here to see if there's any reason I'm not aware of that would explain this studs refusal to move.

Nothing special about that stud, are you sure the spanner isn't touching somewhere?
You could attack it from below, might give more leverage.
As the stud won't be used again maybe use stilsons on it?

BANG it - tighten it and then loosen.... It's a course thread so should come out easily.

Success. I had to apply some heat to the stud with a propane torch, then I was able to get it moving.

I am also struggling with stud removal, I don't have access to a gas torch, so any other top tips on how to loosen the two studs?
I am presuming that they screw out clockwise?
Currently I am stuck with these two sticking out and and not oil in the engine....

Have you tried locking two nuts together on one stud and using them to undo the stud, that usually works on most of the stubborn ones.

No, they screw out anti-clockwise, same as the nuts came off.

Try vise-grips on them.

As above - like ANY normal screw/bolt/stud - they screw out anti-clockwise ..... For some reason this is known as a Right Hand thread.... Only in special applications (normally to prevent unscrewing in use....) are Left Hand threads used.

As said before, give them a sensible smart tap end on, two nuts locked together or a pair of stilsons, tighten them and then undo them.

Thanks folks, I watched this video on removing studs via the double nut method (which I hadn't seen done), sprayed a little wd-40, tapped it with a hammer and hey presto all done.

The pipe (Pt No: 88G538 (MOSS)) from the block to the filter head if not a trick of the light has got a twist in it which indicates that the cone nut on the end of the pipe has had an attempt at being undone without a spanner holding steady the adapter (Pt No: AEA657 (MOSS)) into the filter head. If it is as I think 'damaged' it could reduce oil flow and could lead to a fractured pipe.
For piece of mind I would replace the pipe.
