Oops, Hope you're ok. It makes you jump, doesn't it? Have you a spare screen, are you insured for this? Perhaps now's a good time to have a windscreen fitting experience.
All the best,

Phil.

Claim on your insurance; done and dusted, may cost £50 excess but check if no claim affected, re-think if it is :D

Ray I now know who has a spare screen :D :D

be careful about talking to your insurance company they will record the conversation and this may affect your future insurance as you will have had an "accident".

Nice to know that's not confined to the US. Makes you happy to pay the bill, doesn't it...

Bad luck there - at least the 'zone toughening' worked as designed!

DO NOT CLAIM FOR THIS ON YOUR INSURANCE!!! They will screw you for it come renewal time. I wouldn't even inform them, just buy a new screen, they're not exactly rare. (Read Honest John in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday for many letters about insurers hiking up premiums after accidents have taken place, even if it wasn't the policyholder's fault).

On a technical note, what glass was this? Toughened, laminated, Zebrazone?

Anyone know what glass is on a splitscreen (no seatbelts btw - gonna get them fitted when I get round to it). :o

Split screen windscreens are toughened glass. Do not use laminated as it is thicker and will not fit in the rubber surround properly.

Actually, most insurance companies do not penalise your no-claims discount for making a windscreen claim.

You can check easily and quickly, without having to phone them up at all, by reading your insurance schedule and/or the policy wording.

If you have trouble deciphering the wording (and let's be honest, they are not always the clearest or most interesting of documents!) let me know. I've had a few years experieince of handling motor/property/liability claims, so can normally suss it out for you!
