Hi,

So I'm wanting to fit speakers but without a radio. I just want them for plugging my ipod into. Any thoughts?

p.s. have no idea on where to start.

Start by deciding where you want to put the speakers. There is a hollow section behind the panels at either end of the parcel shelf. You can make some new panels from hardboard and cut holes for the speakers

You will probably need an amp, as the sound just straight from the ipod will most likely be too quiet. I would fit a fag lighter and get an car iPod charger for using your ipod. Like mike says, 2 speakers in the kidney panels will do nicely. I will show you some pics later of the ones that I ripped out of a rotten car and are going to fit one day ....

To be honest I would just fit one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTOROLA-122- ... 4980wt_989 with speakers in the kidney panels
The amp might be as much as that. Period looking and a straight fit under the dash or in a glovebox.

Here are the ones that I am going to fit one day

Before I removed them from the scrapper ( just below the steering wheel)

They are made of hardboard, with some sort of black leather/vinyl on the front. They produce some good sound!!

That should give you an idea of what it will look like when fitted.
Like others have said. You are gonna need an amp, and for the price of an amp, you can get a radio.(if you don't like the modern look, the one I suggested earlier would be ideal)

Hi there I fitted a small amp under the front passenger seat so its out of sight out of mind and then just connected my mp3 player up to it there are plenty of second hand amps on ebay if you fit it under the front seat make sure its the right size so it doesn't catch when you put the seat down. If I get a moment I will up load some pics for you.

Alec Issigonis was the godfather of a pal of mine - he had three philosophies about the cars he designed (minor and mini).
1) Put speedo in the center so it easy to produce L/H and R/H drives.
2) Don't make seats too comfortable so the driver won't fall asleep.
3) Don't put any space for a radio to go lest the driver is distracted - You have been warned :-)
