Just been to an auto jumble and purchased a new flasher unit as my old one is looking tatty, I was told by the seller it is the correct one for a minor and it looks identical to my old one, it states on the unit 21w x4 12v-max94w I know 21w x2 is the normal one for the minor but the seller assured me it would be fine as the figures are the maximum working capacity. Indicators and stalk light flash fine, problem is indicator stalk light stays on all the time when the indicators are off. Have I been conned?

normally non electronic flasher relays rely on the wattage of the indicator lamps to work at the correct rate, e.g., as you say 2 x 21 watt. Is the one you bought an electronic unit, because I can't see a non electronic one working on two lamps if it states 4?
Anyway, have you connected the wires correctly? The correct wiring for the standard relay is:- supply, green to B, indicators, green\brown to L and stalk, light green to P. If it is electronic, simply connect the stalk to the indicator terminal on the relay.

Unit is wired correctly and when I refit the old one it works fine. Not sure what you mean about it being an electronic unit unless you mean the modern square type in which case it's not. Thinking i should just buy another one but should I buy a 2x21w or a 2x21w+5w.

2 x 21w is correct for a Minor.

I'll order the lucas SFB105, but don't understand why the stalk light is staying on, does anybody think it might just be a faulty unit ?

I think that you have been conned, it obviously is not a Minor flasher unit which should be 2x21W+5W which would allow for the warning light and possibly side repeaters. It would possibly flash slightly quicker than a 2x21W unit.
Normally the warning light would not flash or stay on if a bulb had blown on the side being indicated but if correctly wired it should not stay on when not indicating.
I think that not only have you been sold the wrong flasher, you have been sold a duff wrong flasher.
I wish that all I had to worry about on my car was a tatty looking flasher unit!

Sounds Like the unit is duff. The tatty old stuff is usually the best stuff!!!

Fitted new flasher unit Lucas 2 x 21w works fine. On to the next job
