Hubcap Fitting Instructions!

Fitting stainless steel hubcaps to Jethro's brand new radial tyred wheels:
1. Offer up hubcap to wheel covering two of the three locating ridges with rim of hubcap.
2. Fit rim over third locating ridge using a sharp blow of the fist.
3. Run crying into the house for an icepack to reduce swelling of right hand.
4. Return to car which seems to be smirking to itself.
5. Offer up hubcap as in step one.
6. Position short length of 2x2 timber against hubcap rim at third location ridge.
7. Hit other end of timber sharply with wooden mallet.
8. Hubcap located securely onto wheel!
9. Repeat 5-7 for remaining three hubcaps.
10. Give middle finger salute to smug b#st@rd of a car and retire for tea and cake!
Seriously though the wheels and caps look very nice (unlike my bruised and colourful right hand!)

I've noticed that some hubcaps tend to be more of a snug fit than others - I recall from one of the parts catalogues that there is a slight variation in size. You do have the correct ones, don't you? 1/16" could make all the difference...

Yep, I checked with ESM who supplied the wheels and they told me that 8.75" caps were correct and not to try to fit the 8.5" caps that I had originally.
I think you are absolutely correct and the new caps are just tight because they are new.

Are they the new ESM wider wheels? And if so what size and make of tyre did you fit? And how does it handle?

Yes they are the 4 1/2J rims from ESM, I had them fitted with Nankang 155/80/R14 radials and will let you know how the car handles as soon as I can get Jethro's engine to turn fast enough to start up. :D

The bit that holds the spare wheel in place doubles as a hub cap remover :)

At least the roadside is not littered with plastic wheel trims from Morris Minors
