SPIN ON/OFF OIL FILTER

My 1098 engine has a spin on/off oil filter (unlike my previous saloon) and I cannot remove it even though I had extra shredded wheat this morning. I vaguely remember from t'olden days that there was either a tool for this job or a cobbled together "here's one I made earlier" invention that spins these things off quite easily?

draper do a tool that has three prongs and goes under the filter attatch to socket extension bar and wrench its on a cam so it tightens as you turn less than a tenner when you put new filter on put some oil on the seal easier to remove :D

wack an old screwdriver through the middle and turn it.

The screwdriver is a course of last resort - a bit messy! There is a very simple tool that has a strap that goes round the filter and then tightens as you heave on the handle. A large stillson works well too. Or try a good big plate of steaming porridge instead of pathetic shredded wheat.....

Is that with salt in the porridge?
Also available is a strap wrench with a chain.

go with the screwdriver option

or stick the bowl of porridge to the filter, wait for it to set, then turn the bowl which should bring the filter off with it.

In future don't screw it on so tight.

Hammer and cold chisel to turn it, just below where it screws on.

It's SO much easier to just stick with the good old cartridge filter......... 8)

no way! i've never had a problem getting these spin on filters off of any car. some people tighten them on so tight, like their wheel nuts.

These work pretty good, for removing most of the spin-on type.[frame]Image[/frame]

For some oil filters, you may find you need Weetabix AND Porridge.

Of course, the extra carcinogens always go down a treat. Just make sure you wash it all down with a good mug of swarfega - 4 sugars, naturally.
