brake servo location?
Hi i have just bought a lockheed delphi remote
brake servo unit for my 1957 morris 1000 2 door saloon
but the instruction book is not very clear about the most suitable mounting
postion for it , i have thought about just under the regulator/fuse box
but the bonnet release rod is in the way, has anyone out there fitted one ?if so i would be very grateful of your advise thank's arkright

Normally they are fitted closer to the engine bay floor as it is a bit 'unnatural' to pipe brake fluid so high up for no reason(air lock/bleeding problems etc..)
high level servos are normally used if the master is high as well.

I used to have one fitted to a 2 door years ago and dont remember this problem.
There must be a better position surely, I have occasionally seen the mounted on the other side as well.The only problem is that to remove the starter, you first have to remove the distributor.

Personally I wouldn't recommend putting a servo on the exhaust side as the higher temperature will limit the life of the seals and the diaphragm. I'm not saying it is a terrible idea but just something to bear in mind.There must be a better position surely, I have occasionally seen the mounted on the other side as well

I am inclined to agree with you Ray, just that I have seen them there, I will have a look at our next branch meeting to see if this problem with the starter motor exists with the location used by a couple of our members, who have servo`s fitted.

It will fit with the main bracket bolted to the floor of engine bay, between the r/h engine mount tower and the inner wing. Steady bar bolted to inner wing. The large drum part is at the front, the pipe work to the rear. The rear end should be inclined upwards. All bits of eninge easily accessible, and you can still swap engine mounts without removing servo. Haven't had to try swapping the tower though! It's been working like this for twenty years. Wouldn't recommend l/h location, I agree with everyone else about the heat. It's a good mod. Have fun.

My Servo (1957 car) is mounted on the engine bay floor as far
to the rear as it can go and next to the starter motor. The supplied
steady bar is fitted to the floor and I have added a side steady bar
which is bolted to the inner wing. This does not interfere with any
other components. I have pics if you need them?
