You may need to replace the gaskets but look for loose bolts first.

A small amount of oil dripping from there is absolutely normal on an older car. Most likely coming from the crankshaft seal and running down rather than the timing cover gasket (unless there are loose bolts). It isn't a problem for the car unless it's leaking a lot, but it might be inconvenient if it leaves a mess! Check if the leak at the gearbox is gearbox oil or engine oil (same oil but the gearbox should be perfectly clean) If it's engine oil then it's probably from the rear crank "seal". If it's gearbox oil it might be input shaft seal, (hidden inside the bellhousing) but you need to clean up and find exactly where it is coming out. The problem is that the oil gets blown when driving and runs down when stopped so it is not always so easy to find the exact leak point.

If you have access to a pit it should be easy to trace the source of the leak. If it is coming from the rear of the crank where there is no actual seal you might want to check your engine breathing arrangement.

Has the engine just been rebuilt or is it an old engine?
