Last Saturday Maggie took a young wedding couple to the church, a photo shooting and afterwards to the wedding celebrations. As it was - 8 ° C even in the sun, the heater was on all the time, so riding in the car was quite comfortable (the softtop was only opened for a few "official" photographs). But when I switched on the heater fan the squeeking was louder than Maggie's engine, as it seems it needs lubrication or greasing.

I thought it can't be so terribly difficult to get access to the fan, but I don't know how. Unscrewing the two screws on the front panel of the heater will release this part, but due to the shape of the lever (screen - car - off) the panel cannot be removed.

I am sure that there are Moggie owners who can tell me how to get access to the fan to give it a good grease.

Pull the plastic knob off the end of the lever and you should be able to remove the front panel.

I have tried this, but it seems as if the knob has been glued to the lever. Is there a replacement available in case I break it?

Hi Hubert, any problems or repairs you need to fix on the fan/motor will require the heater unit to be removed from the car,
this is because the motor is pop riveted to the side cover, also you cant access the side cover plate screws with the unit fitted to the car, i hope this is of some help regards Mikey,[frame][/frame]

NO - there are NO replacements for that little flat 'knob' so take great care to NOT break it! The fan impeller may be lightly touching the casing - or the motor may need a little oil in the bearings. As above - best to remove it completely and work with it on a bench.

Hubert,
As I changed my heater to a mini heater quite some time ago,I have a spare heater fan and casing here. Let me know if you can't sort it out. You need to take the heater out.

Hi Hubert,

as a 'quick n dirty' fix you can try to losen or fasten slightly the two small nuts near the pop-rivets. (+/- 1 flat)
This helped me, but only for about 1/2 yr.
